Morphological quality characteristics of some broadleaved forest tree sapilers in Samsun–Kuşkayasi and Bafra-Pamuklu nursery

In this thesis study; Common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) (3+0), Anatolian chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) (4+0) and Eastern beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) (4+0) grown in state forest nurseries in Samsun-Kuşkayası and Bafra-Pamuklu Samsun Forest Nursery Directorate, it is aimed to evaluate the seedlings morphological quality characteristics according to TS 5624 / March 1988 Broadleaved Forest Tree Seedlings Quality Classification, and Aphalo and Rikala (2003) Sturdiness quotient (SI) quality classifications. In the study, morphological characters; sapling height (SH), root collar diameter (RCD), seedling branch number (SBN), branch thickness (BT), the length of last shoot (LSL), bud number (BN), stem dry weight (SDW), root dry weight (RDW) and seedling dry weight (SDW) were investigated. In the light of the data obtained; layering index, sturdiness quotient, dry root percentage and Dickson quality index were calculated. In the results of study; The rate of first class seedlings in terms of SI in three different species was found to be quite low. The main reason for this situation is the lack of root collar diameter development parallel to the height growth and the inability to grow a balanced sapling. It has been concluded that the applications carried out in nursery conditions for Eastern beech, Common ash and Anatolian chestnut seedlings are suitable for root development, but nursery cultural practices that support cambial development are necessary.
