Abstract (EN)
Sports clubs today have begun to use digital platforms in a more institutional and professional manner, as such platforms have become a necessity. Consequently, the concept of sports communication has emerged as a highly significant phenomenon. Within the scope of sports communication, clubs conduct their communication and public relations efforts through virtual environments. This study examines how Sakaryaspor and Fenerbahçe utilize digital platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and their official websites. The research employs in-depth interviews and comparative content analysis methods. Football is among the most popular sports globally, contributing to its substantial economy and widespread popularity. The extent to which clubs benefit from this economy varies depending on their position and status. In Turkey, numerous football clubs compete at different levels, primarily in the Süper Lig and the 1st League. Clubs positioned in different leagues and with varying fan bases adopt distinct communication strategies via digital media to reach broader audiences. While sports clubs generally use social media and digital platforms in similar ways, there are no major differences in the types of content or communication styles they employ. Both clubs primarily share visual and video-based content on match and training days; however, Fenerbahçe stands out in terms of interaction and content diversity. This distinction is closely linked to differences in media teams, financial resources, and organizational structures. Clubs with smaller fan bases focus on social media strategies aimed at attracting new supporters and promoting the club, often leveraging humor, social responsibility themes, and trending topics.
