Abstract (EN)

Although many books have been written about Pablo Picasso's life, it is seen that many studies have been done and many theses have been written. This study presents a detailed study of his Guernica, one of the most important works of the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. Guernica had to face important criticisms of art history from the moment he was exhibited in Paris. One of the most important reasons why Picasso, one of the founders of modern art, created a work like Guernica is human values with the sensitivity of the artist. This work, which is one of the leading works of the 20th century, has been a symbolic depiction and narrative of war, pain and savagery. Guernica, who has different and dramatic emotions in every person who watches; Beyond being a historical document, it also examines the wild side of human and humanity. In addition to reflecting the atrocities of its period, the work can present many cases that address universality. Therefore, the study is analyzed in terms of aesthetic, artistic, cultural, historical and sociological aspects in the context of academic criticism and the critique of art. In this study, descriptive method was used among qualitative research methods. As a result, this research / thesis consists of four chapters. In the first part, scientific research steps are mentioned. In the second chapter, the theoretical framework of the theme, which is the general title of the research topic, has been established. In the third chapter, the sociological and aesthetic analysis of Guernica was examined in the axis of art criticism. In the fourth chapter, the findings and comments are discussed.
