Red color in art history; It has been used with different meanings and purposes starting from antiquity to Egypt, Crete, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, medieval, Renaissance, Modern and Contemporary periods. These meanings are have experienced changes according to the social, cultural and religious influences and meanings that have been attributed to the color red throughout history. The first use of red color in painting was seen in colorful animal depictions on the walls of caves from the Stone Age. The most important feature of Egyptian painting was color, and Egyptian painters colored human and animal bodies with ocher. In crete, where the most important art branch is fresco, red color was used in the decoration of palaces and houses. In the Roman Empire, emphasis was placed on the use of red color in the interior decoration of architectural buildings, and the color red was given wide meanings in social life. Red color; It has been accepted as the symbol of the power of the king since the dark ages in Europe, this thought continued in the Middle Ages and was an inspiration for the artists of the period. In the Ancient Greek Period and the Roman Empire, the color red was considered sacred and Renaissance beliefs were greatly influenced by these cultures. In the Renaissance Period, the meanings attributed to red were transferred to social life and religious symbols in the art of painting through the Bible, and became an element of prestige for the nobles. Impressionists with modern thought starting in the 19 th century; examined color theorists and scientific studies, were influenced by these studies, preferred bright red tones in their artworks. Red in today's art; It is conceptualized and used in thought-oriented works produced in different disciplines, and in some examples it can affect the formation of the styles of the artists. Considered in this context; Thesis titled "Red Color in Art History and Habip Aydoğdu Art"; It is based on the life and art of Habip Aydoğdu, who placed the "red" color in the center of his art. Within the scope of the thesis; The use of red color in painting art from the first age to the present and changing forms of expression have been discussed, while defining the relationships between periods, the structure of the color, the quality of light and pigment (dye), its properties, color perception and color psychology were examined, and the production ways of color were investigated. In the study; As an example of an artist and an art style, the transformation and expression style created by the color red in an art style through Habip Aydoğdu's art was analyzed.
