Productivity based transformation in industry: Structural analysis of Sakarya-Kocaeli manufacturing industry in terms of human resource and total factor productivity

As it is known that the technological developments and new production techniques have positive influences on production increase, productivity and finally economic growth, it has become a subject which has been studied for a long time. Thus, it is also understood that a special study field has been emerged in the literature with regard to comprehending the opportunities to be created by IV. Industrial Revolution. In this scope, the main aim of the study is to analyze the effects of the new industrial revolution on work force market and productivity and then to make comment about the current state of production industry of our country in the course of transformation process. Additionally, the aim is to make analysis on enterprises in terms of total factor productivity and to find out the obstacles and problems on the way to their dijital transformation through evidence-based methods. In this regard, the target population of the study is 11.149 production industry enterprises in Kocaeli and Sakarya cities. Sample size based on this values: tolerance size of the instruction is 0.05, the rate of visualization in the desired situation is 0,5, Alfa error level is 0.09 and t = 1.75. Thus, the sample value was founded to be 282. The study findings have been assessed according to the questionnaires made with the enterprises and the results of the data analysis in parallel with the sample value. At the end of the study, the results have been achieved that the enterprises are not ready to the new industrial revolution due to some reasons such as the lack of qualified human resources, lack of internal and foreign financial resources and lack of structure which will support the Research and Development activities in the region; experiencing low capacity usage and low productivity level problem; an economic constriction with the rate of 17,12% on the employment of blue-collar in regional workforce market and a new need of workforce will ocur. In addition, the R&D activities and new technologies means have positive intercourse on total factor productivity and the enterprises in the region should be supported in respect of R&D investments.
