Şanlıurfa Kızılkoyun and Kaleeteği Necropolis lamps

When human beings discovered fire, they used it in lighting and began to keep it under control. First, the torch was used for lighting, then the candle, and then oil lamps were started to be used. As oil lamps are made of many materials, easy transportation has given rise to the practicality of use. One of the most common finds during the excavations is terracotta oil lamps. During the archaeological studies conducted at the Şanlıurfa Castle foothills and Kızılkoyun Necropolis, 162 pieces of mold-made terracotta oil lamps were recovered in the inner parts of the rock burial chambers. Four main types of lamps were created by looking at the nose and body structures. Subtypes were created for those with different characteristics within each main type. The oil lamps were compared with the types showing similar characteristics by conducting a domestic and foreign source screening. It was made by comparing the oil lamps with other finds and samples bearing similar characteristics in the necropolis where they were found for dating. As a result of the introduction of the Christian faith among the dates considered appropriate, it was deemed appropriate to give two dates to them. The general of the lamps 3.- 5. A.D while dating between the centuries, the motif of the cross, which is a symbol of Christianity, is seen on 4.- 5. A.D, the dates of the century were considered appropriate. The oil lamps found in the necropolis are kept in the storage of the directorate of the Sanliurfa Museum. As the first study to be carried out on the terracotta oil lamps brought to the museum as a result of the archaeological excavations, and with the cataloging carried out, it will contribute to the studies to be carried out after that. In addition, it was provided to determine the place where the lamps were produced, to evaluate the commercial, economic and religious relations of the region.
