Crime in the sample of Şanlıurfa

Within the scope of this study, homicide with the motive of honor is investigated from a sociological and legal perspective. By emphasizing on the reasons of crime, evaluations have been made. Concepts such as pudicity, honor, patriarchy have been defined and examined and the connection among them is investigated. The reasons of the increase in male hegemony over female parallel to the expansion of the sexual liberty of women are discussed. It has been seen that, that the right to live taken away from women is sometimes because of their going to school, sometimes because of their outfit style or gossip about them. In Sanliurfa high criminal court decisions that were examined within the scope of the study, it is seen that feudalism and closed society structure take away women's right to live. However, when a crimonological assessment is made, the change and development of a point view towards women, which are generally seen in court decisions, have become promising. For the murder under the pretext of honor in the sense of women's rights, It has been an important step that the special unjust provocation reduction, which was abolished in the period of the Turkish Penal Code, was transformed into a qualified state with the motive of honor in the period of the Turkish Penal Code and in time it enures to the decisions. Within the context of the thesis, the causes and results of honor motives are examined by looking at the events from the perspective of women. In the thesis, it was examined that decisions about women's private lives and their own bodies are made by the male members of the family and woman's sexual life is regarded as honor. The crime of intentional homicide is examined and its elements are addressed. Specifically, the relationship between unjust provocation and the motive of honor is evaluated on the basis of court decisions. The court decisions are focused on the family council, which is not seen as concrete evidence but is known to exist. In general, it is seen that the male members of the family have a say on the lives of females and that the women are not accepted as an individual. Opinions and suggestions have been made to end the deaths caused by motives of honor. Key Words: Honor, motive, pudicity, homicide, woman.
