Abstract (EN)

One of the most common arbovirus in the world of West Nile Virus (WNV) firstly isolated in 1937 in West Nile areas of the Uganda. West Nile Virus (WNV) is classified in the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) serokompleks of genus flavivirus of family Flaviviridae, enveloped, size 45-50 nm and icosahedral a RNA virus. The main importance of this virus, is to affect of the central nervous system and cause encephalitis, meningitis and death. Virological diagnosis is investigation of specific West Nile Virus antibodies or viral nucleic acid in blood and / or cerebrospinal fluid. In this study, WNV IgM and IgG antibodies were determined to be negative with ELISA methods in Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) and blood samples that sent to Central Laboratory of Firat University Hospital as routine 47 patients, undetectable any pathogenic microorganisms, with preliminary ınfectıon of central nervous system. In only one blood sample of all patient's samples was found suspicious positive WNV IgM. The CSF and blood samples of this WNV IgM doubtful sample were found negative by RT-PCR method. These result is tied to the cross reaksiyon can be seen in the ELISA method. Similarly, all samples are studied by RT-PCR method and couldn't be detected the RNA belonging to WNV. The average age of the patients, we take our work, is 19. This was significantly lower than in other studies. WNV seropositivity has increased direct proportion to the average age in the studies. In our study, BNV seronegativity is substantially relationship to the small average age. Also according to the data we obtained in our study with PCR and ELISA, WNV circulation is not active in our region, more comprehensive studies will be needed in the event of a change of ecological conditions. We hope on this issue our work to be benefit of WNV database in our country. Keywords: WNV, CSF, ELISA, RT-PCR
