Assesment of water quality at Sapanca Lake and creeks (becks) the lake

Keywords; Sapanca lake, creeks (becks), trace element, water quality, monitoring,effect of arsenic and lead, amonia and amonium, pollution of lake İn this study; it has been done monitoring and assesment of water quality in Sapanca lake and eleven creeks (becks) feding the lake during 2012, 2013, and 2014 years. Assesment of water quality at Sapanca Lake and creeks (becks) feding the lake has been executed based on the rule of "Surface (overground) Water Quality Regulations" in this scope; it has been picked up 93 samples from ten different station from Sapanca Lake and 24 samples from each creeks (becks) in 2012,2013 and 2014 years. Parameters in these samples which need to be analysed was chosen based on regulations. Datas which was found from analyses has been calculated according to Hazen method. Values which can not have been exceeded was determined with %95 percent probability and was compared with regulation's limit. The area surrounding the Lake Sapanca has many risk factors tor the lake's water quality. The factors effecting chemical characteristics of water are creeks, highways and railroads around the lake. As it known the cities of Sakarya and Kocaeli supplies most of their drinking water from Sapanca Lake. The roads those passes from both sides of the lake and the railroad that passes from the South side, have negative impact on the lake due to their drainege water. Also exhaust gases from automobiles, particles from tire wear and contamination from fuel wastes enters the lake from the drainege channels after rains. From the point of nutrient parameters the creeks, which have Surface Water Quality Regulations II, III and IV class quality, will affect the water quality of the lake. Also there are many automotive sub industry facilities, food industries, natürel spring water industries, packing facilities, forest product facilities, metal process facilities, other various types of facilities and restaurants, hotels, cafes and gas stations around the lake. The domestic and industrial wastewaters that are created by these facilities cause risks fort he water quality of the Lake.
