Keywords: Lake Sapanca, Heavy metal, Sequential Extraction Method (BCR), Soil, Sediment, Water In this study, it was aimed to determine heavy metal pollution in Sapanca lake sediment and basin soil considering seasonal changes Between November 2015, January 2016, April 2016, July 2016 and October 2016 for a period of 3 months. 10 sediment stations from Lake Sapanca and 10 soil stations from around the lake were selected. Soil and sediment samples were dissolved by BCR sequential extraction method developed by European Union Reference Commission (BCR- the European Community Bureau of Reference). Heavy metal contents of Al, As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn were determined by ICP-OES in solid samples separated into fractions. In addition, pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter, organic carbon and oxidation-reduction potentials (ORP) were measured in soil and sediment samples. When the concentrations of heavy metals in soil and sediment are examined in Sapanca Lake basin, the heavy metals having the highest concentrations are Al and Fe. These metals are natural sources of soil and sediment in the natural structure of the source. Other sources of heavy metals are agricultural fertilizers used in industrial establishments and agricultural areas in this region, especially in traffic.
