FLORISTIC AND ECOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF PHYTOPLANKTON IN S ARI YAR DAM LAKE (ANKARA) (Ph. D. Thesis) Tahir ATICI GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY April 1999 ABSTRACT In this study, plankton samples were obtained from seven stations in the Sanyar Dam Lake, -and-the number- of the organizmsramountof- chloropnyll-- a and water quality of the phytoplankton population were examined. During the investigation, a total of 195 taxa were detected. Of those, 35 belong to Cyanophyta,75 Chlorophyta, 70 Bacillariophyta, 2 Rhodophyta, 4 Pyrrophyta, 2 Chrysophyta, 2 Xantophyta and 6 to Euglenophyta. Cyclotella, Navicula, Nitzschia, Synedra, Chlorella and Scenedesmus were the most abundant organisms in the dam lake. In this study, the annual physical and chemical variations as well as seasonal distributions of Sanyar Dam Lake phytoplankton species composition were shown.
