ABSTRACT Master Thesis THE INVESTIGATION OF JOINABILITY OF WITH HOT PRESSING MANIFACTURED AlSiMg-SİCP REINFORCED COMPOSITES Uğur ÇALIGÜLÜ Fırat University Graduate School of Naturel and Applied Sciences Department of Metallurgy Education 2005, Page: 145 In this study, AlSiMg-SiCP reinforced composites manifactured by hot pressing method which were combined with diffusion welding method. MMC material was produced by adding SiC powder with average 42 \xm dimension and 5-10-20 % in weight percent into it. In this study, composite materials prepared in different percents were combined with the diffusion bonding under the same pressure, different temperatures and durations. However, particularly the combination behaviour of SiC powder and its effect on the microstructure were examined. The manifactured samples were produced in suitable dimensions for the diffusion furnace and they were joined with the diffusion welding method. Diffusion weldings were applied under argon inert gas atmosphere, with a dynamic load of 0.26 MPa, in 20, 40 and 60 minutes and under a 575-600 °C temperature interval. After the welding processes, samples were cut perpendicular to the welding joining surface and the surface microstructure, SEM, EDS analysis studies were realized on the bonded surfaces. Microhardness measurements were applied as characteristic mechanic tests. The optical microscope studies had been shown that the composite material has a homogen mixture and the hole number very small. As a result of the microhardness experiment, it was observed a low hardness grade between the matrix and the MMC alloys.
