Abstract (EN)
In coastal areas, discharges of industrial and power plant facilities result in change in temperature of water. This change threats living organisms in the sea water. For this reason, the effects of these discharges must be investigated prior to discharging. In this study, a numerical program, which is written in coordinate system and which can solve three dimensional advection-diffusion equations is used to model far field dilution. The program can simulate baroclinic and barotropic flows, which are consequence of wind, density and thermal changes, and pollution and thermal diffusion as well. Solution method consists of finite differences. In the solution, the Crank-Nicholson method which gives second order accuracy in time is used. The model is applied to Mersin Bay and far field dilution of hot water, discharged, under the effect of circulation, caused by wind, is modeled.
