Abstract (EN)
Medical ozone (O3) therapy is used in a wide spectrum for therapeutic purposes due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. Studies have shown that O3 treatment has a protective effect against tissue damage by reducing apoptosis and oxidative stress. It has been reported that carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), an organic solvent, causes acute or delayed liver toxicity in studies. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of O3 treatment on the liver damage caused by CCl4. Forty male Sprague Dawley rats, 8-10 weeks old, were used in the study. Histologically, H&E, PAS, Masson, Trichoma and TUNEL staining methods were used in liver tissues of rats. CCl4 exposure caused an increase in TUNEL apoptotic index and hepatocyte damage in histopathological imaging methods. O3 treatment given for antioxidant purposes did not cause significant changes compared to the control group, but in the liver of the rats in the CCl4 exposure group, contrary to expectations, it tended to have an oxidant effect. As a result; More studies are needed on the use of antioxidants against CCl4 toxicity of O3, both in dose concentration differences and in numbers. Keywords: CCl4, Ozone, Liver, TUNEL
