The effect of curcumin against cisplatin-caused liver damage in rats

Abstract (EN)

It is known that cisplatin which is using in cancer threapy, has a lot of damage on many tissue and organ, especially liver. It causes to increase oxidative stress in the liver leads to the formation of the hepatotoxicity. Curcumin is a compound which obtained from the roots of the Turmeric plants has mainly antioxidat property and including antifibrogenic, anticarcinogenic effects. This research has been done because of showing the therapeutic effects of curcumin on the cisplatin receiving rat. In our research 26 Wistar Albino rats weighing 200-250 g divided four groups. We gave 2 cc/kg DMSO by i.p to the control group for 6 days. The curcumin groups received 200mg/kg curcumin by i.p for 6 days. The cisplatin+curcumin group received 200mg/kg curcumin by i.p for 6 days and single dose of 20mg/kg cisplatin by i.p only third day. The cisplatin group received single dose 20mg/kg cisplatin by i.p at third day. At the seventh day all rats were sacrified. The liver tissue of all rats were taken. In addition to electron and light microscopic examinations, SOD, GPX and MDA analyses were done. Also AST, ALT and Total bilirubin analyses were done in blood. The result of this research, the findings showed that steatozis of the hepatocytes, congestion of portal triad and sinuzoids even acute cisplatin application. Hovewer curcumin+cisplatin groups decreased all damages and improved celular disorganizations.
