Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) play an important role in the conversion of solar energy into electricity. Triphenylamine and its derivatives, which are investigated as an electron-releasing group, emerge as a promising group in the development of photovoltaic materials. In this thesis, triphenylamine derivatives containing neither carboxylic acid-cyano group (3a and 3b) nor aldehyde group (4 and 5) were synthesized. Also, structure 6, N,N-bis[4-(1,3-benzothiazole-2-yl)phenyl]-3'-methoxybiphenyl-4-amine, bearing the benzothiazole group was synthesized. In the synthesis part of the thesis, Schiff base synthesis, the Suzuki coupling reaction, and Vilsmeier-Haack reaction were utilized as main synthetic techniques. UV-visible absorption, fluorescence emission and fluorescence kinetic measurements for the synthesized structures were performed. In addition, HOMO and LUMO energy band values of each molecule were calculated using cyclic voltammetry. Affinity of Structure 5 and 6 towards certain metal ions were investigated. From all the results obtained, the potential usage of 3a, 3b, 4 and 5 in DSSCs was evaluated.
