Some theological views of İsmail Hakkı İzmirli in the journal of Sebîlürreşâd

SUMMARY Izmirli Ismail Hakki is one of the late Ottoman and early republican scholars. He wrote books and articles in Islamic sciences, especially in theology. Izmirli is one of the pioneers of modern theology in the last period. He argued that the classical theology did not sufficiently respond to today's needs and that there should be a new scientific theology that would respond to today's needs. He expressed how the new scientific theology should be, its plan and programme in his works and writings. With the development of journalism activities in his time, the thinkers of the period published many articles and writings in the journals. The scientific issues put forward in the articles published in the journals also reflected the ideas and thought structure of the period. One of the famous journals that started to be published in the late Ottoman period was Sebîlürreşâd. The magazine was published with the aim of raising public awareness against harmful intellectual movements that emerged in the Western world, began to spread rapidly to the Islamic world and aimed to eliminate the Islamic faith. In this magazine, which was published with the idea of Islamism, many scholarly figures, especially Izmirli Ismail Hakki, published articles and writings. Izmirli wrote articles on Islamic thought, especially theology. In this study, the theological views of Izmirli Ismail Hakki will be discussed in the light of his articles published in Sebîlürreşâd magazine.
