Determination of yield and quality features of selected superior hybrid strawberry genotypes

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted under Spanish-type high tunnels and laboratories of Horticulture Department of Cukurova University during the 2016-2017 growing season. Result of breeding program by crossing; Rubygem, Festival and Amiga as mother parents with Sevgi, Kaska and Ebru strawberry cultivars as pollinator was obtained 8 superior hybrid strawberry genotypes. These genotypes have been selected according to their yield, flesh firmness, taste, fruit weight, first blooming time, first harvest time, fruit external color (h angle, L*). The aim of this study was to evaluate selected superior 8 genotypes and their parents in terms of yield and fruit quality parameters. In the selected hybrid genotypes and parents; monthly and total yield per plant and fruit quality properties like fruit dimensions (diameter and length), fruit quality classification and marketable fruit number, fruit external colour (L,a,b,C,Hue), fruit flesh firmness, total soliuble solid (TSS), acidity, TSS/Acidity, taste and pH were determined. Weighted rating have been made with regard to obtained yield and the some important quality parameters. While mother parents take the highest score, the genotype 291 from selected hybrid genotypes followed these cultivars. In terms of fruit flesh firmness the hybrid genotypes were determined to produce lower values from mother cultivars. Although the genotype 291 produced lower values in terms of taste and fruit flesh firmness from mother cultivars, it was superior in terms of yield. The TSS/Acidity rate which being important on taste parameter is the best at genotype of 291 (23.8) then Rubygem which taken 25.6 value.
