Özet (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of a 12-week mat pilates exercise program on body perception and body composition. 29 volunteer sedentary women, who did not participate in any physical activity for at least 1 year and whose mean age was (32,14 ±6,01) and whose average height was (161,28±1,02) were included in the study. During the 12 weeks designed in accordance with the experimental group in the study program; Mat Pilates training was done 3 days a week for 60 minutes. Before and 12 weeks after the exercise, data were collected using the "Satisfaction with Body Characteristics" scale, which was adapted into Turkish by Hovardaoğlu to determine the subjects' body weights, body fat ratios, Body Mass Indexes, body circumference measurements and the level of perception of the participants' bodies. SPSS 21.0 package program was used for the analysis of the data obtained, and the Wilcoxon test was used to determine the changes between the pre-post tests. A statistically significant decrease was found in body fat ratio, body weight, lean body weight, Body Mass Index, and body circumference measurements obtained at the end of 12 weeks compared to the pre-exercise period. Body image survey results showed significantly higher averages compared to the baseline and the averages determined afterwards (p<0.05). As a result, it was concluded that regular mat pilates exercises for 12 weeks may have effects on sedentary women's body weights, body fat ratios, Body Mass Indexes, decrease in body circumference measurement values, and increase in body image satisfaction. Keywords: Pilates, body perception, body composition.
