Effect of vibration on pain during orthodontic treatmentwith clear aligners

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of vibration on pain that occurs during orthodontic treatment with clear aligners. The study material was randomly divided into two groups in a way that the numbers of men and women were equal, 40 individuals who had no medical problems, 3-6 mm crowding in the upper jaw, and had not received orthodontic treatment before. Clear aligners treatment was initiated for each patient by planning. The first group (mean age; 16,75±1,14) was determined as the control group that started using clear aligners. In the second group (mean age; 16.5±1.72), following the clear aligners application, vibration was applied three times, 24 and 48 hours later. Pain values of individuals were measured with VAS (Visual Analogue Scale). According to the data obtained, the effect of vibration application on pain control was evaluated according to VAS scores at 6 different time points and the 1st day score was found to be statistically significantly lower in the experimental group compared to the control group. No significant difference was found at other time points. More studies are needed for more definitive results.
