Performance of Segâh Tekbir and Segâh Salat-i Ummiye in tetovo and examination via diffussionism

Religious music is an element that we encounter in almost every culture. It has been performed in both religious and external places for centuries, especially for purposes such as riveting religious feelings, worship and ensuring social unity. Considering Islam, it is possible to divide religious music into two sections as mosque music and tekke / dervish lodge music. Segâh Tekbir and Segâh Salat-ı Ümmiye are perhaps the most well-known of the hundreds of religious songs that are widely known and sung in the Islamic geography. In this thesis, the performance of Itrî's Segâh Tekbir and Segâh Salat-ı Ümmiye in the city of Tetovo, North Macedonia were examined. The existence of the pieces in Tetovo has emerged in direct proportion to the spread of Islam in the region, and besides being religious music, the pieces are also considered as a cultural elements. In the study, H. R. Rivers, A.C. Haddon, from diffusionism contributed by G. E. Smith, and H.G. Gadamer's idea of fusion of horizons, and acculturation theory was utilized. The pieces in question were considered as a code, and their existence after difussionism was analyzed in the form of code and code analysis. In addition to the literature review, quota survey and semi-structured interview techniques were used in the thesis, so that the performance of the pieces in question in Tetovo was experienced one-on-one. The pieces in question are accepted as a religious element by the people of the region, and the same time they are strongly associated with Turkish culture. The existence of these pieces in Tetovo is discussed under two main headings: cultural and musical. As a result of the thesis, there was no change in the usage area and purpose of the artifacts in Tetovo, that is, in the cultural existence of the artifacts in Tetovo, and it was determined that they had parallel usage areas and purposes with the Turkish culture. However, in terms of musical performance, visible differences have been detected and these differences have been shown through the transfer of the recordings taken from the field to notation.
