Abstract (EN)

Within the scope of data processing in this research according to mathematical modeling activities, It is aimed to examine which math literacy skills (communication, mathematization, representation, reasoning and argument, determination of strategies, use of symbolic language) eighth grade students use and to what extent they use these skills. The research designed with the qualitative research method was carried out with the case study method. The participant group of the study consists of five eighth grade students studying in the same class with an academic grade point average of 85 and above. The basic skills of mathematical literacy demonstrated in the modeling process of eighth grade students were examined within the framework of mathematical literacy created by Turner, Blum, and Niss (2014). Modeling processes were examined within the context of the contextual approach, whose representatives were Lesh and Doerr (2003). As a result of the research, it was seen that the learning process designed with mathematical modeling activities supported the use of basic mathematical literacy skills of eighth grade students. In addition, it was determined that mathematical literacy skills also support each other's development and thus the levels of these skills increase. Keywords: Mathematical literacy, mathematical literacy basic skills, mathematical modeling.
