Abstract (EN)

Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. In addition to surgical and angiographic interventions for coronary artery disease, medical treatment costs and reduced workload increase health spending as well as increased economic loss. As with many diseases, the importance of primary prevention treatment is increasing day by day in coronary artery disease. It is known that environmental and genetic risk factors influence coronary artery disease development. Sexual intercourse, can also be assessed in the lifestyle of coronary artery disease such as nutritional habits, exposure to cigarette smoke, sedentary lifestyle etc. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of sexual intercourse on the formation of coronary artery disease. The study included 180 patients who applied to the cardiology outpatient clinic and who did not have previous history of coronary artery disease. Patients were grouped as 90 patients with normal coronary anatomy and 90 patients with coronary artery disease diagnosis. Patients were assessed according to the presence of additional diseases, their demographic characteristics and the frequency of sexual intercourse. The effect of sexual intercourse on coronary artery disease has been considered in other factors that may have an impact on the development of coronary artery disease. As a result of the study, it was seen that patients with more frequent sexual intercourse had more normal coronary artery anatomy and those with coronary artery disease had more single coronary artery disease than multiple vascular disease. As a result, it was concluded that the incidence of coronary artery disease and coronary artery disease severity decreased as the frequency of sexual intercourse increases, and that sexual intercourse might be a preventive factor in the development of coronary artery disease and that more extensive researches should be done in this regard. Key words: Coronary artery disease, sexual intercourse
