"The Fundamentals of Sectorel Strategy and the Relation Between the Contents of Vision and Mission Statements". Key Words; Vision Statements, Mission Statements, The Advantage of Competition, Strategic Fundamentals. This study investigates the role which the vision and mission statements assume in obtaining competition advantage. After explaining the vision and mission concepts in details, the study further handles the contents of the statements of certain firms. Statements belonging to several companies operating in different industrial sectors in Turkey have been collected and their contents have been analyzed. Answers for the following two questions have been seeked in this study: 1. Is there a relation between vision-mission statements and competition advantage? 2. Are competition fundamentals mentioned in vision-mission statements? The following results have been reached with this study:. Vision-mission statements enhance companies' strength in competition.. There is a strong connection between vision-mission statements and competition advantage.. Competition fundamentals are mentioned in vision-mission statements.. The fact that companies have peculiar and consistent statements plays an important role in gaining competition advantage. Turkey has retreated way back in her competition capacity in the global scene compared to previous years. As long as companies can increase its capabilities with regard to competitiveness, the country can also do the same. Therefore, this study would contribute to companies' efforts to acquire higher competition skills for their future objectives.
