New dimensions in secularization: Process of secularization of religious people

Religion is a system that enables believing and worshipping the holy, and methodizing them, making sense of "things" visible or invisible, explain them and determining rules, rituals etc. in accordance with the characteristics that are understood and explained. Religion has been seen in all human societies. Therefore, the religious literature offers extensive data sociologically. In a changing world, societies and individuals have changes according to themselves. The religious institution is also affected by this change. The concept of secularization presents important findings in a sociological context. In this research, it is aimed to detect the criteria that enable individuals to define themselves as religious, to research religious perception with the impact of social change, the impact of the transformation in the rituals and practices on the persons and to detect aspects of secularization in Turkey. In this context, 20 volunteer participants who defined themselves as religious or conservative were interviewed and the current situation was tried to be determined. The research consists of three main sections. In the first part the concepts of conservatism, religiosity, secularism and secularization were examined and literature review was conducted. In the second section, in Turkey modernization process and secularization - laicism relationship is given. In the third and last part of the research, the results of the field research conducted in Bilecik province were evaluated. The findings are examined under four main headings as : "Religious Identy Perception of Participants", "Multi-Dimensional Religiosity Perception of Conservatism", "Place and Indicators of Implicit Secularization and Self-Secularization in Daily Life", "Place and Indicators of Implicit Secularization and Self-Secularization in Private Life" The research; expresses the tensions experienced in traditionalism / modernity, religiousness / secularism and everyday life practices as "new dimensions in secularisations" and presents them as "implicit" and "self" secularism concepts. With this conducted research, it has been detected that religious/conservative people in Turkey are in a tendency to become secularized. However, this tendency of secularization shows that it develops in the context of "self-secularization" by searching for ways to redefine it towards a desired secularization in the direction of economy, technology, daily necessities and obligations without giving up the symbols of religion and symbols that have religious meanings.
