"Sarf-ı Osmani" is a lecture book on Ottoman Turkish grammar based upon the transformation process of the grammar which was written in eastern style in reorganization period of Ottoman, to the western style grammar. Selim Sabit used a very simple language on this work of him purposed of teaching Ottoman Turkish to the elementary school students. Giving the rules of Arabic and Persian, he compared these with the rules of Turkish on his work. The most important feature of the work is providing the Arabic, Persian and Turkish equivalents of the terms used in Ottoman Turkish. In addition to this feature, the explanations of the terms are supported by examples and also most of the terms are based on examples when naming them.In addition to the rules of Ottoman Turkish in the work consisting of ninety six pages, auxiliary parts for the reader such as excitation (tenbih), acquirement (faide) and dictation (imlâ) are added as well. At the end of the work, the grammar terms used in, equivalents and explanations of them by the grammar specialists of today are provided.
