The loneli̇ness of modern man in stories by Sema Kaygusuz

The goal of this study is to explore the theme of "loneliness" name starting with at the end of 1990s in Sema Kaygusuz's stories. The theme of loneliness is handled with modern and modernism concepts. There is no chain of events in stories but there are breaking points, for this reason, the psychology of people is more important than presentation. Stories that focusing on the psychological atmosphere of people and intensity of emotion reflect modern man with imagery, metaphor, icon and images. Stories which are rich with icons and images reflect modern man's loneliness. Zeynep, İlyas, Mrs. Ömer, Tacettin, Ferhan, Nermin etc. who are mentioned in Sandık Lekesi, Esir Sözler Kuyusu, Doyma Noktası, Karaduygun, Üşüyen/Efsiri and Ortadan Yarısından symbolize modern man. Apart from these people, also thrush, juniperseed, wells and narrow streets are non-human entities which are described modern man's loneliness. Because Sema Kaygusuz's stories are case stories, they present from human life sections. People are lonely in these sections. The reasons of loneliness are miscommunication, escaping from reality, alienation and insensitivity, existential anxiety, tradition fades, urbanization and disorder of social relationship concepts. These factors describe modern man's depression, desperation and loneliness. This study consists of three parts. In first part, a brief information is given about Sema Kaygusuz's life and her literary personality. In second part, theoretical knowledge is given about loneliness, modern and modernism concepts. In third part, the theme of loneliness is examined. The relationship of loneliness is examined with miscommunication, existential anxiety, tradition fades, alienation and insensitivity, urbanization, escaping from reality and disorder of social relationship concepts.
