Shams al-Din al-Samarqandi's Basharat al-Isharat 3. Part: Critical edition and evaluation

This thesis aims to present critical edition, translation and evaluation of the third part (on the soul) of Shams al-Din al-Samarqandi's Basharat al-Isharat on Ibn Sina's alIsharat wa't-Tanbihat. Since there are works done on Samarqandi before, dealing with his life, his age and his thought, this thesis discusses these issues only briefly. It consists of four chapter. The first chapter presents information about the manuscripts and the methodology that is used in this study. The second chapter gives an evaluation of the chapter on the soul. It presents Samarqandi's method of commenting on the Isharat. It shows that Samarqandi tries to clarify Ibn Sina's expressions only and does not aim to put forward new ideas. The third part presents the critical edition of the third part of the Basharat. The fourth part consists of Turkish translation of the text. In the translation a method of literal translation is preferred. It is hoped that this study on Samarqandi's Basharat will contribute to some extend to the History of Science.
