Özet (EN)
Sensorineural hearing is provided by the presence and integration of pathways from cochlear hairy cells to the cerebral cortex. If each of these components is affected for various reasons, it causes sensorineural hearing loss (SNHC). Prestin is one of the earliest precursors of damage to external hair cells (DTH) leading to permanent hearing loss. This study was performed on patients who applied to Fırat University Department of Otorhinolaryngology. The study consists of four groups with 30 patients in each group. Group 1: No hearing loss aged 55 years or older (control group); Group 2: 20-55 years of age with no hearing loss (control group); Group 3: sensorineural hearing loss between 20-55 years; Group 4: 55 years old and older with presbyacusis. After the audiometry test, 5 cc blood was taken to evaluate the serum prestin level. Among the groups with hearing loss, the prestin level of group 1 was 445.32 pg / ml, the prestin level of group 2 was 452.79 pg / ml, the prestin level of group 3 was 123.64 pg / ml, the prestin level of group 4 was 79 54 pg / ml. There was no significant difference between the serum prestin levels of the young patients in the hearing loss group and the patients with presbiacus (p = 0.084). There was no significant difference between the serum prestin levels of young and old patients in the control group (p = 0.399). However, there was a significant difference (prestin level was higher in the control group) between group 3 with young hearing loss and group 2 with young control group, and patients with presbiacus and elderly control group (p <0.001, p <0.001, respectively). Serum prestin levels may be a biomarker in the follow-up of patients with presbycusis and sensorineural hearing loss. It can also be used in conjunction with audiometry to determine the level of future hearing loss in these patients. Key words: Prestin, Presbyacusis, Hearing loss
