ABSTRACT MSc THESIS EXTRUDERS, USED IN SYNTHETIC FILAMENT PRODUCTION AND DESIGN PRINCIPLES OF EXTRUDER-PUMP SYSTEM Oğuz DEMİRYÜREK DEPARTMENT OF TEXTILE ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor: Prof.Dr. Erdem KOÇ Year: 2004, Page: 163 Jury : Prof.Dr. Erdem KOÇ Prof.Dr. Beşir ŞAHİN Asst.Prof.Dr. Nihat ÇELİK In this study, synthetic fibres, their process stages and especially extruders, which have an important function to draw polymer to fibre, and drawing systems have been investigated. The hydrodynamic analyses of extruder-pump system have been made by dimensional and dimensionless parameters in order to find out appropriate working parameters such as viscosity, flow, pressure, screw angular velocity and screw geometry. In the end, suggestions for future works on extruder design are given. Key words: Extruder, Thermoplastic polymers, Dimensionless study, Hydrodynamic analysis. VI
