Evaluation of surface roughness and bacteria retention in ceramic based CAD / CAM materials after finishing processes

Abstract (EN)

With the increase of aesthetic expectations in dentistry, ceramic restorations began to replace metal-supported restorations. The most used materials among ceramic materials are feldspathic ceramic, glass ceramic reinforced with leucite, glass ceramic reinforced with lithium disilicate and glass ceramic reinforced with zirconia. The aim of this study is the ideal finishing of ceramic materials; It is to prepare the restorations in the most ideal way by determining the surface roughness and bacterial adhesion parameters. It is planned to prepare 120 samples of 1 mm thickness from 4 different ceramics to be used in the study. Samples obtained from each ceramic group were divided into three subgroups. 10 samples each are planned as manual polish, 10 samples each as glazing, 10 samples are planned as control groups. One sample from each group was also prepared for SEM analysis. Surface roughness values of the created samples were measured with the help of an optical profilometer without applying any finishing process. After the applied surface treatments, the surface roughness values were measured and compared. SEM analysis was performed for one sample from each group for surface imaging. A bacterial retention test was applied to determine whether there was bacterial involvement on the surfaces of the samples obtained. As a result of our study, it was observed that the polished samples left smoother areas on the ceramic surface than the glazed surfaces, different polishing processes revealed similar roughness values on different ceramic surfaces, and different glazing processes revealed similar roughness values on different ceramic surfaces. As a result of the obtained values, the highest bacterial uptake was observed in the feldspathic glaze, feldspathic control and suprinity polishing group
