Abstract (EN)
Keywords: Diesel Engine Combustion Chamber, Heat Transfer, Thermal Analysis, Ceramic Coating. Chemical energy of fuel is converted to mechanical energy after combustion for internal combustion engines. In case efficient cooling cannot be provided around the combustion chamber, high temperature arose by combustion may cause malfunction of piston, cylinder, engine cover, piston ring and other engine components and spoil the engine oil. Besides, preventing heat losses and increasing the combustion chamber temperatures are requested in order to raise engine efficiency. The basic way to reduce engine heat losses is to isolate the combustion chamber. By means of a combustion chamber isolated by ceramic materials; using of increased exhaust heat, methods of decreasing the friction and eliminating the cooling system is being studied. In this study, CAD models of the piston, piston rings, cylinder, cylinder cover components and combustion chamber of a two-stroke diesel engine belonging to a military vehicle have been made up by Solidworks software and thermal analysis of the combustion chamber is performed in Ansys Workbench software by determining combustion chamber boundary conditions. Afterwards, aforementioned analyses are repeated by coating the piston and cylinder wall of the engine with various highly heat-resistant materials. As a result of the analysis, is was observed that engine thermal efficiency can be increased by coating the piston and the combustion chamber with ceramic thus reducing heat losses.
