The usage of pottery wheels in ceramic shaping methods and pottery wheels

The pottery wheel which is used in the shaping of traditional and artistic ceramics, is used in shaping of symetric forms on a turntable. First types of pottery wheels is hand wheels, which provides facilities in hand shaping method. With the development of hand wheels foot operated pottery wheels started to be in use thus ceramic production is increased. With the increase in ceramic production extracting the earth from the nature, clay kneading, shaping, firing and areas such like marketing are occured and each areas run by different staffs.The pottery wheel that the historical process has taken thousands of years, is developed with the technic and technologic opportunities. In this process the shape of pottery wheel has varied and became an important shaping tool, in which culture it takes place. Shaping on the pottery wheel is an important shaping method. In the 18th century with the impacts that have seen with the developments in industrial, technologic, socio-economic and cultural areas. From the second part of the 20th century it is started to be used as an important shaping tool by the modern ceramic artists in common.In this comprehensive study, the types of pottery wheels which are used in ceramic shaping methods and shaping on the pottery wheel is searched and investigated . Ceramic artists whom creates art works on the pottery wheel, and their masterpieces are searched. And also in some traditional pottery centers in Anatolia, the traditional masters with their cirriculum vitae are mentioned with their traditional forms. Hence with all these study the masters which are stil making pottery in a traditional way are documented.
