An investigation on parasite fauna of chub (Leuciscus cephalus L. 1758) from dam lake Serban (Afyonkarahisar)

In this study, the presences of parasites on 114 Leuciscus cephalus from Serban Dam Lake, Turkey were investigated between February 2009 and August 2010. Six parasite species were identified in the host fishes: 160 Gyrodactylus sp. (%7.9, 17,8±16,4) was found on gills and fins of the host fish specimens; 520 Dactylogyrus vistuale (%53,5, 8,5±8,3) on gills; 122 Argulus foliaceus (%17,5, 6,1±5,1) on gills, fins and skin was recorded. 76 Caryophyllaeus brachycollis (%12,3, 5,3±10,0), 65 Biacetabulum appendiculatum (%0,9, 65,0±0) and 22 Bothriocephalus acheilognathi (%7,0, 2,7±3,1) were found in intestine of the host fishes. Among these species, Caryophyllaeus brachycollis has the feature of being a new record for Anatolia, whereas Biacetabulum appendiculatum is new for L. cephalus in Anatolia. Paratypic samples that belong to these two taxons has been registered in the Natural History Museum in London (C. brachycollis-NHMUK 2011.3.16.1, B. appendiculatum-NHMUK 2011.3.16.2). In addition, minimum-maximum and mean intensity of parasites and infection prevalence were determined using seasonal data, size and sex distribution of the host fish.
