Serbesti journal and Ahrar Party

Parallel to the developments in society, important factors affecting politics have also changed. Therefore, press activities that can be dealt with socially, economically and legally, especially from the political side, have also improved. Serbesti Journal, an important part of this process, emerged as a reaction to the political stance and practices of the Committee of Union and Progress. In the years in which this Journal was published, the Ahrar Party, opposition movement, party completed its establishment and began to play the role of opposition on the stage of history. However, the 31 March incident that occurred after a short time led to the start of hard times for both Serbesti Journal and Ahrar Party. After the 31 March incident, the Ahrar Party was in the period of faltering, the Volkan and Serbesti Journal, which were seen as triggers. Volkan journal reporters, Serbesti journal reporters and AhrarParty members were arrested and sentenced to various penalties. In this thesis, we discussed the opposition in the field of the press and the other Journals in opposition with this Journal. While examining the Journal Serbesti, we examined the copies of the Serbesti Journal, which is in the Hakkı Tarık Us collection and in the Atatürk Library of the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality. In addition, we started with the emergence of the opposition idea about the most important pillar of the opposition. Later, we discussed the prince Sabahaddin and AhrarParty, who made a name for himself with the idea of Adam-ı Merkeziyet, which he put forward as much as the opposition. Again, while evaluating the Ahrar Party, we had the opportunity to evaluate the other parties that assumed the role of opposition. An important part of the thesis was put forward as an examination of the opposition that emerged as opposed to the Committee of Union and Progress, both in the press and in the political sense.
