Abstract (EN)

Sergei Prokofiev is one of the most important representatives of 20th-century music. The composer, who was born in the last period of Russian Empire, studied with the important representatives of the nationalism. However, he always tried to be the representative of 20th-century music. Prokofiev, who was known as a pianist, went to America and France owing to revolutions in his country. He took great opportunities to introduce his music to the world when he went to abroad. Also he was affected by other composers' works. As he turned back to his country because of the difficulties of living conditions abroad, he faced with restraining by Goverment of The Soviet Union and he died in 1953 in The Soviet Union. Prokofiev completed his op.19 Violin Concerto in 1917. However, owing to the revolution in his country, the concerto had not been premiered in Russia. The concerto performed first time in France in 1923. Also he wrote op.19 Violin Concerto just before he went to America. In this period he created his outstanding works such as Classical Symphony and The Chout ballet. In the first part of the thesis, the life of Prokofiev has been roughly examined. In the second part, op.19 Violin Concerto has been observed in terms of structure, violin technique and methods of interpretation.
