Graphic designer as curator in the context of exhibition design

In the thesis titled "Graphic Designer as Curator in the Context of Exhibition Design", the place of the process in the 21st century design world and the expanding meanings of graphic design are examined by approaching the field of graphic design from previously unseen angles. In the research, the connection that the graphic designer established with curation and design exhibitions was examined, and an innovative approach was tried to be brought to the field. In the thesis, the value of exhibitions and the exhibition policy from the past were rethought within the discipline of graphic design, and its reflections on curation, mediation, production and practice were emphasized. In the first part of the thesis, the graphic design process is revealed in the axis of methodology and terminology, and it is aimed to prepare the ground for the emergence of possible theories. In the second part, the exhibitions in which graphic designers took part were discussed, the exhibition of graphic design was conveyed through international examples; the exhibitions, spaces and themes that reveal the design are detailed with an in-depth understanding. In the third chapter, the potentials of the graphic designer as an exhibition organizer are mentioned and it is aimed to reveal their curatorial abilities. The thesis study was carried out with the literature review method from primary and secondary sources, in addition to the research, interviews with important national and international figures were accompanied. With the research, which includes initiatives and examples that explore and question the curator roles of the designer, it is aimed to reveal the signs showing that the perspectives of graphic designers towards exhibition and curation attitudes have changed in recent years.
