Abstract (EN)

Translation Works, which developed as a result of Westernization efforts during 19th century, constituted a significant factor which shaped Turkish literature. It is possible to see this effect of translations which were made in the western world on Turkish literature only by determining and examining translated works within the magazines and newspapers of the era. Servet-i Fünun which started its publication life in year 1901 and stood out as a long-termed and important magazine of the whole era played a very significant role in the development process of Turkish Literature by means of both translated and copyrighted works that were published on its pages. Our purpose during this study is to determine translated stories that were published in 1475 different issues of the Magazine, Servet-i Fünun; and consequently enlightening a point of translation works of the era which were kept in the background. Our study constitutes of four parts. Information concerning the translation works during the era shall be presented within the introduction part of this dissertation hereby and general slope shall be put forth. In Part One, there are translated stories which are examined in accord the eras to which the translated works belong to. In Part Two classified in accord with their authors, the nationalities of the authors. In Part Three, information regarding to the translated works and the translator authors are presented. In Part Four, classified in accord with their themes. And finally, as a conclusion, obtained data shall be evaluated. As a conclusion, it is determined that translated works that were published in Servet-i Fünun between the years 1901 and 1922 densified during specific eras; and French naturalists and Parnassian authors were mostly preferred including especially Maupassant; and the most common themes were love, betrayals and family relationships.
