Due to their potential to cause vascular necrotic tissue and increase susceptibility to infections, various types of wounds-especially burn wounds-are of particular importance.The main consequence of a burn wound is loss of epidermal integrity of the skin. Thermal, electrical and chemical injuries are the most common causes of these wounds. Many efforts have been made by clinicians to manage wound healing through genes, cytokines, chemokines and surgery.An untreated burn wound usually progresses within 72 hours, complicating treatment, prolonging hospitalization, increasing costs and making scarring unnoticeable.Thanks to its moderate efficacy, no or less toxicity, low cost and greater availability of herbal products, it is one of the best alternatives for research. There are many reports in the literature on the use of herbal medicines to treat burn injuries. One of these plants is Sesamum indicum.Sesamum indicum L. (Sesame) belongs to the Pedaliaceae family. Among the various bioactive components of the seed, vital minerals, vitamins, phytosterols, polyunsaturated fatty acids, tocopherols and unique classes of lignans such as sesamin and sesamolin have been reported. A group of phenylpropanoids called lignans coexist with tocopherols and phytosterols and provide defense against reactive oxygen species thanks to their antioxidant properties.Sesame seeds, a rich source of antioxidants and bioactive compounds, have also been used to treat burns, indicating different effects on wound healing. In addition, sesame contains substances that can inhibit the process of lipid peroxidation, increase blood flow to collagen tissues, increase fibril collagen lifespan and reduce cell damage. In this study, the effect of sesamum indicum oil on burn healing was compared with silver sulfodiazine (silverdin). The results showed that sesame seed oil was superior to silver sulfodiazine in some parameters on burn wound healing. Key Words: Burn wound, silverdin, sesame seed oil
