Abstract (EN)
The aim of the present study is to investigate the stories of Sevim Ak, a children literature author, in terms of values training. The ten root values, which are included in both the Turkish education programme and domestic and foreign values classifications, have been analyzed, and a unique values classification has been created by associating it with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs in order to study the value classification within a universal framework. There are 18 values, including being clean, prudence, affection, friendship, responsibility, patriotism, benevolence, religious faith, self-control/self-confidence, honesty, patience, respect, science, arts, aesthetics, justice, equality and freedom, in the values classification created. This study has been carried out by using the document analysis technique, a qualitative research technique. Sevim Ak's 12 story books (Çilekli Dondurma, Dalgalar Dedikoduyu Sever, Dörtgöz, Gökte Biri Var, Mahalle Sineması, Karşı Pencere, Pembe Kuşa Ne Oldu?, Penguenler Flüt Çalamaz, Puldan Taştan Lahanadan, Toto ve Şemsiyesi, Toto'nun Sınıfı, Uçurtmam Bulut Şimdi) have been analyzed by basing on these values. At the end of the study, it was seen that the eighteen values discussed in the study had a frequency of 1692 occurrences in Sevim Ak's examined works. The top five values according to their frequencies in the stories are aesthetics, affection, self-control/self-confidence, prudence and arts respectively. The least-frequently used value in the stories is patriotism. Sevim Ak's stories are considered to be advisable for children in terms of values education since they contain all the values we have classified.
