The Value of kidness, compassion and conscience of characters in Sevi̇m Ak's novels

With the Industrial Revolution, the world entered a process of global change and the foundations of the modern world were laid. In the modern world built with a materialist approach, human beings are considered only on a material level and the spiritual aspect of humans is denied. Thus, the emergence of problems that threaten humans, society and nature has become inevitable. In the absence of values that guide people, violence, injustice and environmental problems have become increasingly common all over the world. Therefore, values have gained importance again, and the necessity of fundamentally addressing the transfer of value has arisen. For this reason, the aim of the research is to examine the characters in the novels of Sevim Ak, one of the children's literature writers of our country, in terms of values. Based on the root values of the Ministry of Education, the values of goodness, mercy and conscience were chosen. The study was conducted on Sevim Ak's 18 novels published between 2002 and 2024. The selected novels were examined using the document analysis method, which is a qualitative research method. In the novels, limitations were made by selecting only the main characters. Thus, the values of goodness, mercy and conscience of the main characters were tried to be determined. In the "Conceptual Framework", the relationship between children's literature and values was emphasized; The concepts of goodness, mercy and conscience are explained. In the "Findings and Interpretation" section, the determined values were classified and presented in tabular form and the findings were interpreted. In the "Discussion", the findings were evaluated and compared with previous studies. In the "Results" section, the results obtained in line with the research questions are included. It has been seen that the values of goodness, mercy and conscience are handled in almost all novels. It was determined that the most frequently encountered value was conscience, and the least frequently encountered value was compassion. It has been seen that the values are processed in line with the basic principles of children's literature and presented to the reader through implication. When Sevim Ak's novels are examined in the context of the values examined, it is concluded that the novels have a very rich content and can be effective in the transfer of values. It has been recommended that novels can be used as supplementary resources and that novels can be used to support children's development.
