Vocabulary in Sevinç Çokum's historical novels

Our writer Sevinç Çokum, who draws the attention of many researchers in terms of language and expression features in her works, was selected by TDK in 2000 as the author who uses Turkish the best, and her works have been translated into many languages and received many awards. This study is based on the problem sentences of whether Sevinç Çokum's historical novels reveal the vocabulary of Turkish, whether they are rich in proverbs, idioms, reduplications and clichés, and which concepts the names in the novels focus on. In this study, it is aimed to determine the vocabulary in Sevinç Çokum's historical novels. For this purpose, the author's novels "Bizim Diyar", "Hilal Görününce", "Ağustos Başağı", "Lacivert Taşı", " Gözyaşı Çeşmesi " were examined in terms of vocabulary, word frequency and concept analysis. In this way, it is aimed to reveal the vocabulary of Sevinç Çokum, to contribute to vocabulary studies on Turkish, to identify and improve the vocabulary of Turkish. In the study, each novel was examined separately by using qualitative and quantitative research techniques. The vocabulary in the historical novels of Sevinç Çokum's has been revealed together with the frequency dictionaries. The most frequently used 50 words, 50 nouns and 50 verbs in the analyzed novels were listed separately. The words in the novels have been conceptually classified and analyzed under 21 titles. 5391 words in the novel "Bizim Diyar"; 5503 words in the novel "Hilal Görününce"; 6786 words in the novel "Ağustos Başağı"; 9368 words in the novel "Gözyaşı Çeşmesi"; 8016 words in the novel "Lacivert Taşı" were determined. It has been observed that the vocabulary of Sevinç Çokum's historical novels is rich. It has been determined that special names are decisive in terms of reflecting the historicity, and words suitable for the historical and cultural structure are chosen. It has been determined that the old and new words of Turkish, spoken and written language features are side by side, utterances of Turkish dialects are also included, and the author's special effort to protect and improve the vocabulary of Turkish.
