The use of standard Turkish in the school environment and its effect on the written products of secondary school students in Seydişehir

In this study, the use of standard Turkish in the school environment and its effect on the written products of secondary school students in Seydişehir was examined in relation to some variables, including; gender, the social environment of the students, the pressure of the social environment on the students, idiolect, and arbitrariness.The participants of the study were randomly selected 18 students (9 male and 9 female) from 3 vocational schools in Seydişehir, namely; Seydişehir Teknik ve Endüstri Meslek Lisesi, Seydişehir Kız Meslek Lisesi, Seydişehir Sağlık Meslek LisesiThe data of the study, which related to the research problem, were gathered through natural observations of the students in their school environment and students? written productions on their self descriptions.In order to triangulate the obtained data, they were also examined by outher experts thus their opinions also contributed to the data gathering process.In addition to the free style written products of the students, their exam papers also examined in order to obtain valuable data to examine the effects of the use of standard Turkish in their written products.The analysis of the obtained data, revealed the current levels of the students? use of standard Turkish in their school environments and its effect on their written products.vıThe findings of the present study showed that the students in the selected vocational schools in Seydişehir use non-standard Turkish in their daily speeches and in their school environments; however, they do not use non-standard Turkish in their written products.
