THE AVI-FAUNA OF SEYFE LAKE (Doctorate Thesis) Elif Omca ÇOBANO?LU (GÖRGÜN) GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY July 2000 ABSTRACT In this research, the importance of Seyfe Lake for bird fauna has been tried to be found out by doing field study every week between the dates of 08.11.1996 and 30.10.1998. In this way, the bird's species in the area, populations, reproducing birds (nests and chicks) and the yearly alteration of population have been determinated and the habitat preferences of birds have been found. However the species of Phoenicopterus ruber (greater flamingo) and Pelecanus onocrotalus (white pelican) which reproduce in the lake and which are in the red list have been tried to study more detailed. The counts have been made before their distribution on the water was changed. For song birds, the convenient habitats around the lake have been gone and the birds which were seen and heard have been recorded. Totally 215 species and 4 subspecies in 50 familyas have been established around the lake. In addition, 124 species of 215 species have been seen in summer. By the result of this study, it is thought that the collected ornithological datas could be useful for the solution of the problems which Seyfe Lake faces to.
