Identification of the suitable mesh size for the carp (cyprinus carpio linnaeus, 1758) and pike-perch (sander lucioperca, Bogustkaya ve Naseka, 1996) inhabiting in Seyhan dam lake

Prof. Dr. Ali İSMEN This study was carried out between September 1998 and December 1999 in Seyhan Dam Lake. The length at first maturity was determined for carp as 28cm for males and 28.8cm for females. The mountly changes of the Gonado Somatik Index and Condition Factor values indicated mat; the carp reproduce from the beginning of May to the mid July. Selectivity factor and the minimum mesh size wideness for the carp was calculated 6.120 and 50mm respectively. The length at first maturity for pike-perch was found to be as 22cm for males and 23cm for females. The mountly changes of the Gonado Somatik Index and Condition Factor values represented that, this species reproduce between the period February and May. The net with 28, 30 and 32mm mesh size, used in order to catch pike-perch, should not use in the lake because of the "Growth Overfishing" to the carp.
