Theological views of Ebusuûd Efendi

In the historical process, Kalam (Islamic theology) have continued to improve through the systematic schools. Mu'tazila, Asy'ariya, and Maturidiyyah have created their different methods of interpretations. Thus, Ilmukalam(Islamic theology) became an independent discipline with the contributions of above mentioned schools. These schools enhanced their interpretations through scholars of Islam and composed a new culture in this discipline. In this cultural atmosphere, my aim is presentingtheological views of Ebusuûd Efendi by benefiting from his tafsir, İrşâdu'l-akli's-selîm ilâ mezâya'l-kitâbi'l-kerim, and additional sources referencing Ebusuûd. Our study includes three chapters: In the first chapter, the Ebusuud's interpertation of being and oneness of God, existence, creation, tenzih (negative theology), the issue of attributions and istiva (Establishing Throne) will bestudied. In the second chapther, prophecy, the afterlife, revelation, the possibility of sending prophets, the basic skills required forbeing a prophet, miracle sand wonders, theprophecy of Muhammad (PBUH), resurrection, helland paradise, torture of grave, şefaat (Intercession), and seeing face of Allah in the afterlife are going to be examined. In the third chapter, the approcah of Ebusuud about human will be discussed based on creation of humanand his acts, hidayah(guidance) and dalal (perversion), faith, rizq(provision), and ecel (time of death). While analyzing Ebusuûd's ideas about Islamic theology, I discuss which interpretation style that he adopts from schools of Kalam and which evidences he uses. Additionally, I evaluate his critiques on some interpretations of scholars and how he responds these interpretations. Therefore, starting from this point of view, I discuss his affiliation of any theological order in the history of Islamic theology. Also, I examine which methodologies he adopts or rejects in Mu'tazila, Asy'ariya, and Maturidiyyah. Keyword: Ebusuûd, Kalam, Asy'ariya, Maturidiyyah, Interpretation.
