The life and sufi views of Seyyid Abdülbâkî el-Hüseynî

This study systematically examines the life and Sufi views of Seyyid Abdülbâkî elHüseynî, a prominent representative of the recent Sufi heritage. An important figure in the Naqshbandi-Khalidi tradition, el-Hüseynî's guidance activities had an impact not only within his own circle but also across a broader social sphere. His life, spiritual journey, guidance, understanding of service, and Sufi views form the core framework of this study. The introduction to our study briefly examines the historical development of the Naqshbandi order and its customs and etiquette. It also includes a brief overview of the views of traditional Sufis and Abdülbâkî el-Hüseynî on Naqshbandism. The first section examines al-Husayni's personality development, his family, education, relationships with his spiritual guides, and his services within the dervish lodge. It also evaluates his guidance activities centered in Menzil, his scholarly and madrasa studies, and his approach to social issues. Furthermore, it discusses aspects of his religious and moral life, as well as his work, "al-Minhaj al-Sani Adab-i Sheikh Sayyid Abdulhakim al-Husayni," which he wrote as a product of his efforts to transmit his Sufi legacy on an academic level. In the second section, Abdülbâkî el-Hüseynî's understanding of Sufism is examined within the framework of thematic headings; concepts such as Sufism, Sharia-Tariqat, Rabita, Zikr, Khatm-i Khacegan, Sohbet, Tawbah, purification of the heart, ethics, etiquette, zeal, and heedlessness are analyzed together with his words and practices. This study aims to evaluate Sufi views in a more comprehensive context by occasionally referring to Sufi views in Sufi literature and academic studies. In this respect, the study aims to present the thought and way of life of a contemporary Sufi figure, connected to traditional Sufi knowledge, with a holistic approach. Accordingly, al-Husayni's scholarly and spiritual legacy has been examined from an academic perspective, and the fundamental framework of the guidance he offers to contemporary humanity has been clearly and consistently defined.
