XISUMMARYThe Evaluation of The Experiences and The Knowledge Levels of The Women WhoHave Cesarean and Vaginal Delivery in Prenatal and Postnatal PeriodDelivery is a physiological event and it takes a large place in every woman?s life.Cesarean section has become more reliable than vaginal delivery by developing surgicaltechniques, using antibiotics and blood transfusion.Research is planned as a definer to intend to determine experiences and the levels ofknowledgement of vaginal delivery and cesarean section of the women in prenatal andpostnatal period at Afyon Kocatepe University Ahmet Necdet Sezer Practice and ResearchHospital Delivery Clinic and Afyon Zubeyde Hanım Delivery and Child Clinic DeliveryClinic in Afyonkarahisar district.Data forms are applied between May 1st, 2006 and August 1st, 2006. Between thesedates, interviews were done with 361 women by face to face technique. These women hadeither vaginal delivery or cesarean section and they were willing to participate in thisinterview at Afyon Kocatepe University Ahmet Necdet Sezer Practice and Research HospitalDelivery Clinic and Afyon Zubeyde Hanım Delivery and Child Clinic Delivery Clinic.Research forms consist of two parts; prenatal period and postnatal period. In prenatal periodpart; there are questions about maternal demografic characteristics, reasons of birthpreferences?; and there are questions about their satisfaction of their birth preference, thefactors that affect birth decisions in postnatal period part. Datas are analyzed by using SPSSfor Windows 11.0 package program. Percentage, Crosstabs, Chi-Square Test, Pearson Chi-Square Test, Fisher?s Exact Test, T test to control the two means are used in the statisticalanalysis of the study. Statistical meaningfulness level is assumed as p< 0,05.XIIAccording to results of this research, 41,8% of the pregnants have vaginal delivery,58,2% of them have cesarean section. 81,7% of pregnants say the ideal way of having a babyis vaginal delivery, and 18,3% of them say the ideal way of having a baby is cesarean section.68,4% of them want to have vaginal delivery in prenatal period, and 31,6% of them want tohave cesarean section in prenatal period. One of the reasons of wanting to have cesareansection is the other reasons and this is the highest preference (48,2%). The highest preferencefor vaginal delivery is its naturalness (37,7%).Key Words: Patients? Education Level, Birth Preference, Cesarean, Vaginal Delivery.
