Abstract (EN)

Societies and individuals abandon 6,5 billion worth unusable and worthless waste every year on the basis of Turkey. In this study, we examined the zero waste strategy and the contribution and the function of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in this process. As an indicator of society's bad decisions and its senselessness, wastes can be reduced to a minimum with the right and effective waste management method. The Zero Waste Strategy is a very efficient waste management system that aims to eliminate potential wastes before its emergence. Such a valuable waste management system can only be consistent with raising awareness of the environment and human health. In this context, the NGOs raise awareness to this matter when the government falls short to do so. NGOs also have done projects on this matter backed with acquired data. This study is carried out in order to demonstrate in what extend the zero waste strategy is supported by the NGOs, considering the importance of human-nature interaction. The first part of the study raises awareness of the zero waste strategy. The second part focuses on the improvement of zero waste awareness and NGOs role in this matter. In the third part, we exemplified the AGED's "Schools Are Competing For Zero Waste Project" to support our argument and in conclusion, we added our suggestions in this matter.
