Abstract (EN)
The knee is the joint with the largest joint space in the body. It has been the subject of many researches both due to its complex structure and because it carries the weight of the body. As it is known, large animal breeding constitutes one of the cornerstones of the animal economy in our country. In large animal husbandry, lameness caused by joint diseases affects animal welfare and causes serious yield losses. This situation negatively affects the herd economy and then the country's economy. Knowing the morphology of the knee joint, which has such a complex structure, is important in the diagnosis and treatment of knee joint pathologies in both human and veterinary medicine. Although there is detailed information about the anatomy of the region, no study was found in the literature in which MRI and CT images of the knee joint of Simmental cattle were examined, 3D modeling was performed and the distribution of Aquaporin was investigated. In this study, we aimed to examine the knee joint in Simmental cattle, both morphometrically and morphologically, with many methods. The anatomical structure of the knee joint was examined in detail with X-ray, CT and MR images. Three-dimensional models were obtained from two-dimensional images obtained from CT images and morphometric measurements were made. In MRI images, meniscus, ligaments and other soft tissues were examined in detail both morphologically and morphometrically. In addition, the expression of AQP-1, AQP-2 and AQP-3 in the knee joint cartilage, meniscus and ligament tissue of Simmental cattle was revealed for the first time by immunohistochemical method. As a result of the literature review, we think that the results of the presented study will both provide up-to-date data in the field of veterinary anatomy and lay the groundwork for similar studies to be carried out in the future, since the knee joint in Simmental cattle has not been examined both morphologically, morphometrically and immunohistochemically.
